ACT Health first to launch new Supply Chain catalogue system for health services

24 June 2011.  ACT Chief Minister and Minister for Health Katy Gallagher has welcomed the official launch of a new medical supply and inventory system in Canberra, the first of its kind in Australia.  "The Master Catalogue Information Service (MCIS) is part of a national program to streamline supply chain management in our healthcare system," the Chief Minister said.

"All ACT Health services and hospitals will benefit from the new Master Catalogue Information Service, which is designed to increase efficiency through reduction of product ordering errors and automation of inventory management processes."

"We expect the MCIS to dramatically improve purchasing and distribution processes, and the safety of patients, by ensuring the right products are purchased at the right price and delivered at the right time and place."

"Purchasers and suppliers will automatically update internal systems from a central database of the latest product information and pricing data contained in the National Product Catalogue (NPC)."

"The new MCIS system will dramatically improve access to information about product availability by clinical staff, and will enhance ACT Health’s ability to control the quality of medical products, devise and consumables used in the delivery of healthcare."

"The National E-Health Transition Authority (NEHTA) has worked closely with ACT Health and software developers Bizcaps, to implement the new automated tools," Ms Gallagher said.

NEHTA CEO Peter Fleming said the partnership with ACT Health was a major achievement in health supply management reform.

"NEHTA is thrilled at the success of this collaboration which marks a significant step in the development of an integrated and interoperable eProcurement process across the country," he said.
