Dr Mukesh Haikerwal (AO) appointed Chair of the World Medical Association (WMA)
7 April 2011. Congratulations to Dr Mukesh Haikerwal on his appointment as Chair of the World Medical Association (WMA) Council. This is recognition of the highest order for Mukesh's work in the Australian health community and demonstrates the respect he has amongst his peers in Australia and internationally.
As the National Clinical Lead for NEHTA it is our good fortune to have Mukesh helping to lead the progress of eHealth in Australia. He is a passionate believer in the benefits of the use of modern technologies in the Australian health system and the impact eHealth can have in enhancing the safety and quality of healthcare in Australia. In 2011, Dr Haikerwal was awarded with Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for 'distinguished service to medical administration, to the promotion of public health through leadership roles with professional organisations, particularly the Australian Medical Association, to the reform of the Australian health system through the optimisation of information technology, and as a general practitioner.'
