Draft national approach to pathology services
20 August 2010. A draft concept for a national approach to pathology services has been released for public comment by NEHTA.
The draft e-Pathology Request-Test-Report Cycle Concept of Operations document describes proposed guidelines for the electronic exchange of pathology requests, test results and reports between healthcare providers around the country.
NEHTA Head of Solutions Development Paul Williams said the draft has been developed through extensive sector and industry consultation.
“The concept of operations outlines a national approach that will promote greater continuity of care and enable increased responsiveness across the pathology sector.”
“It is a national model that is based on consistent, standardised technologies and message formats that will create genuine interoperability for the sector.”
“This is the next step in the development of a national approach to pathology services creating more effective, efficient and safer patient care,” he said.
Consultation will be open for one month closing on Monday 20 September. The document and feedback instructions can be downloaded from http://www.nehta.gov.au/e-communications-in-practice/epathology in the ‘e-Pathology Foundation Documents’ section.
