Private Hospitals

NEHTA is working with the private hospital sector to develop an understanding of the issues, concerns and opportunities perceived by the sector concerning the implementation of healthcare identifiers and related processes and services; and to develop an Implementation Plan for the sector that is intended to foster implementation and synchronise as far as possible with other industry sectors.

The proposed plan will be reviewed and endorsed by senior figures in the sector, to ensure that its provisions represent the sector’s thinking and that the sector as a whole can take ownership of it.

Consultation will include additional stakeholders in order to reflect the full range of issues that need to be accommodated in the plan.  These include:

Hospital managers and clinicians, particularly:

  • CEOs
  • Finance Managers
  • Patient Administration / Registration Managers
  • Nurse Managers
  • Medical Council Managers (representing Specialists)
  • Pharmacists

Representatives of certain external stakeholders will also be consulted to clarify the way in which HI implementation may affect their communications with Private Hospitals:

  • Diagnostic Service Providers (e.g. Pathology Services)
  • Health Insurers
